My first rant will be all about MTV. I used to love MTV. During elementary school before I went to school I watched and listened to music videos on MTV. They were their own news station and they actually did what their title implied. They were all about music. Now they are just a reality trash pile.
There is hardly any music videos on the channel now. There has to be some good reasons behind this switch because they seem to be making a lot of money. They claim that the introduction of the Real World and Road Rules were such big hits that they decided to expand them. But to the extent that they currently have is despicable. When I was a kid they were already expanding their reality shows, only playing music videos during the night time hours and early morning hours when they didn't have that many viewers that they had during the day. Sure we liked some reality shows, but the real point and birth of MTV was showing music videos. (However, I have seen one music video on the station recently which was the debut of Katy Perry's California Gurls.)
The extent that MTV is going to in order to attract viewers is just plain stupid. Shows like The Hills and Jersey Shore have no right to be on any television station. I don't care what The Situation goes through in clubs and his fake personal life, that's not even intresting, they are just actors and everything they do on that show is acting. Even shows like Made are only popular so teenagers can think that they can make a difference. All you are doing is playing with teenagers emotions, making them insecure, and setting the wrong example for kids.
Justin Timberlake was right for once when he called out MTV during the 2007 MTV awards saying "play more damn videos!" MTV you don't have to totally replace all of your tv shows with videos, just give us what you were born with, more videos. Even if it's 30 minutes at night or all through the morning, it doesn't really matter. You are losing many fans by not playing music videos and replacing it with total crap, espeically this one. (Keep pranked, I like that one. And introduce more hidden camera shows.)
